Ok, so every now and then I duck on to ABC Adelaide radio with Ali at about 6:35am on a Thursday for a segment called ‘Three Things’. It’s where we talk about, weirdly enough, three things I think are worth checking out or reading or watching or doing. You get the idea. Sometimes I pitch a bunch of ideas and only a few of them get chosen, so I thought why not list some of them here for the people who don’t tune in? Why not indeed.

So here goes. Today I spoke about…

Springtseen – Letter To You.

Bruce Springsteen’s new album Letter to You – and the accompanying doco which is on Apple TV. I’m not a massive Springsteen fan, but this album is lovely, and the doco is even lovelier. They recorded the album in about four or five days, played it all live, vocals were all first take vocals, and it’s bloody great. I’d make some lame comparison with Taylor Swift’s Folklore album which I adore, but even mentioning Springsteen and Swift in the same sentence seems like a no no.

Visit our national parks virtually. Pants optional.

I’ve also been meaning to shout out that you can do a virtual tour of more than 120 trails in 30 national parks here in South Australia. Considering we went into lockdown/pause/circuit breaker/house arrest/whatever you want to call it as of today, it seemed like a pretty good time to mention it. It’s kind of like Google Street View but instead of sending someone out in a little car with a big camera on top, they sent a hiker out with a big camera backpack thingy and they hiked all these trails so you can do them virtually now. Whether you’re looking for a bit of an outdoor fix while you sit on your arse eating chocolate like me, or planning something for when this shit show is over, it’s kind of cool and worth checking out.

Long Way Up.

And finally there was Long Way Up with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. This one’s also on Apple TV and I know what you’re probably thinking: “I’ve already got Foxtel and Stan and Netflix and Amazon Prime and bugger AppleTV” and I hear ya, I really do.  So don’t get it and watch it. Or get the free trial and watch it and then cancel it. It’s up to you.

For those of you who don’t know, they did Long Way Round through Europe and Asia on motorbikes a while back… then Long Way Down through Africa on motorbikes… and this one’s up through South America. Starting in some city I can’t pronounce and ending in LA which I can, because it’s literally just two letters. This time the trick is they’re doing it on prototype Harley Davidson electric bikes which probably seemed like a really good idea at the time but turns out to be not so much. They go through the Andes, Peru, Coats Rica and all sorts of cool other places looking for power points and it’s all really quite good. Even if Ewan is Obi Wan Kenobi now and I can’t see him any other way. Although him asking some kids in South America if they’ve seen any of his films is pretty epic when they ask what he’s been in and he says ‘Trainspotting’ and I’m still bloody laughing.

Find extra ‘secret content’ on Netflix.

And even though I said ‘finally’ already, for those of you with Netflix, I just wanted to remind you to how to access all sorts of ‘secret content’. The instructions on how to find and do it are here. And don’t panic, it’s nothing shonky. They just have so much content it’s really hard to find it all, so these codes will help you search really specific categories. For example, if you’re looking for an action film, instead of just getting one big, generic action category, you can search for Asian Action movies to Action Comedies to Westerns, Spy Action & Adventure, Martial Arts Movies etc. You can search by all sorts of criteria that may well help you find something you haven’t seen yet. There’s even a section for ‘Campy Slasher and Serial Killer Movies’ – that’s how specific some of the categories are and you’re welcome.

That’s it for me for now. I’ll post more again next time I’m on air.
