For those of you who like to know the story behind a picture, here’s the story behind this one.
You don’t need to be David Attenborough to recognise this one – it’s a classic Aussie Laughing Kookaburra. Although clearly in a more serious mood and not laughing when I took this shot on the banks of the Murray River not far out of Murray Bridge. These birds are super cool, have a great laugh, but if you’re a frog, mouse, lizard, snake, spider or anything else made of meat they will mess. you. up. Nom nom nom. With apologies to all the vegans out there, plants make up basically 0% of their diets. They’ll even eat other birds which I think you’ll agree is just plain wrong, so even though they have a really nice name that makes them sound quite jovial, if you’re a critter and you come up against one, it’s no laughing matter.
