Want to come to Cambodia with me in 2019?
A little while back I was approached by a friend of mine who was heading to Cambodia towards the end of January 2019 to run an ultra with some friends. She’d been on both my Bali and Cambodia tours previously, and clearly a glutton for punishment, wanted me to arrange a tour for her group while they were there. And sure enough, I’ve put together a great little tour for them. Of course.
So what’s this got to do with you? Well, it turns out for various reasons, a couple of her group can no longer make it. It’s no biggy for me, we’ll just take a smaller bus and off we’ll go for an awesome adventure. But it got me thinking, what if someone else wanted to come? What if you wanted to come?
(Spoiler alert: you don’t have to run the ultra or even be a runner to come! We’ll do other stuff while they do that.)
For a whole heap of reasons, I’m winding these tours back now, (long story short is I just don’t have the time to do them), so if you ever wanted to go to Cambodia, hang out with a bunch of fellow crazies including me, and have an awesome adventure, this is your chance.
If you don’t know, I’ve lived there before and spent a lot of time there over the last ten years, and this tour is basically a combo of my all time favourite things to do. Some are obvious, like visiting the temples, but some are hidden gems I discovered by living local. So consider it an adventure. A running trip, if you want. A photography trip, if you want. Or maybe a bit of everything trip. And if you can’t be arsed taking your own pics, I’ll end up being your personal photographer. You’re welcome.
Rather than post every single detail here, I’ll give you the short version, and if you want to know more, just flick me an email and I’ll send you everything you need to know.
The tour starts on Jan 17th 2019, and finishes on Jan 26. (We do the ground tour only so do not book flights, but can certainly tell you everything you need to know about best connections, best airlines, and connect you with our preferred agent who can do it for you if you don’t want to do your own flights online. If you’re flying from Australia, flights are usually between $800 & $1200 depending on how lucky you are.)
The itinerary goes something like:
Day 1: Cycle around the temples of Angkor Wat and go zip lining.
Day 2: Temple tour.
Day 3: Day off – unless you want to join one of the running races on that day. Or if you want to do something else like explore the floating village, see some out of the way temples etc, I can arrange it for you.)
Day 4: Travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, stopping for a quick spider snack along the way.
Day 5: See a few sights around Pnhmom Penh including the Royal Palace, Killing Fields, Wat Phnom and some markets, then head down the coast to Kep.
Day 6: Kayaking down a jungle river and dinner on a houseboat at sunset.
Day 7: Rock climbing, caving, and watching the sun set from Kep Mountain.
Day 8: Hike/Ride to the The Hidden Lake, then back to the Hidden Cave Temple.
Day 9: Up Bokor Mountain to see the sights and Popokville waterfall before heading back to Phnom Penh in the afternoon. For anyone who’s still alive, we’ll most likely have a celebratory dinner.
DAY 10: Check out and finish.
If you want to do extra stuff before or after the tour, just let me know and I’ll make it happen. And it’s worth noting that while the group who originally booked are all runners, this tour will also work if you’d rather hike and/or ride a bike. All the same activities, just a slightly different route and/or pace.
We’re still finalising final costings based on final numbers but if we can get a couple more people on board it will most likely be around AUD$2,500 including accommodation, all activities, local guides, entry fees to various areas including the Angkor Wat Park Pass, breakfasts, lunches, transport and yours truly as your all singing all dancing host. So literally nothing for you to worry about from the time you arrive to the time you leave.
(Does not include dinners, flights or insurance.)
If you’re even half thinking it might be fun to come along, let me know and let’s chat. No pressure, no hard sell, just an opportunity to join in an awesome adventure.
In the meantime, here’s a few pictures to get you in the mood.
